A little blast from the past...
I know I haven't written in awhile, and I need to catch everyone up... Which I will do shortly, but someone I haven't talked to in a very long time found me on Facebook and I had to jot my thoughts down immediately...
I knew her for one semester, maybe two in nursing school before she was deployed to Iraq with her reserve unit. She was severely injured in an ambush on her convoy and almost had her left arm amputated. It may sound strange that this person that I knew for such a short period of time has affected me so deeply and makes me so committed to Army nursing, but I think of her often when I work... Probably because she told the doctors working on her that they needed to save her arm, because she wanted to be an Army nurse and she couldn't do that with one arm. She really is a true testament to shear will and desire; She returned to nursing school the semester she was suppose to graduate with us, amid her continued surgeries and rehabilitation... She finally graduated last fall.
I had a short IM chat with her tonight and she said she was contemplating joining again... In fact she said that she drove around the parking lot at the recruiter's office last week, but didn't go in. She absolutely floors me, because after all that she has been through with the Army, she still misses it and wants to come back. Her perseverance and dedication motivates me when I want to quit, reminds me of how lucky I am, and rededicates me to the special population that I am privileged to serve.
Anyhow, I will work on getting my blog updated this week with pictures and all of the whistles and bells I normally have...
