One month down...

Things are going pretty well, we have been here for a little over a month and routine has set in for the most part... But I will a post a couple of highlights from the past few weeks: It is currently Nurses' Week, and of course we had to have some sort of festivities... I did a little speech, along with some of the other nurses at the opening ceremony and it was pretty fun, because most of you know how much I like to talk. Ha-ha. Here I am speaking directly in front of the Command Staff of the hospital about the role of military nurses during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.... Awesome.

We also had a MASCAL drill a couple of days ago, which was interesting and short to say the least... The E-7 that runs the immunization clinic plays a pretty good psychiatric patient and was quite the handful, but quickly calmed down after I "medicated" him with some Ativan and Haldol... Can I tell you how much I love Haldol? It is a truly wonderful drug! Ha-ha. So, as you can see, we made the best of it and had a good time in the ER despite us night shift folks being very tired and disgruntled that we had to be there in the middle of the day. Needless to say, our crew has a pretty good sense of humor... My favorite is the "In case of capture" hammer. I am surprised the artist didn't draw a picture of an M16... It would definitely be a more effective weapon. Ha-ha. And here I am taking advantage of the MASCAL button... And that is seriously how I felt at that moment!

Other than that, I have been running a lot, trying to eat four times a day (so that I am fewer than eight pounds underweight at the end of the month weigh-in), working hard when we are busy, surfing the internet when we are not busy, watching movies, and reading any quality books that I find on the free table in the barracks. I thought I would also post a couple of pictures of my little living quarters. It is fairly austere, but I really won't be here long enough to make it too homey... Although I do have some pictures up on my locker and a calender so I can cross the days off until I return home. :)

Well, that is about it for now... I want to let everyone know that despite the tragic happenings on Camp Liberty yesterday, I am safe, sound, and doing well out here in the desert. On a last note, Please take a moment to say a little prayer for the families and friends of the five killed and three wounded Soldiers.

66HM5 out...
