Why...

It is such a hard thing to accept that life is dynamic? I have always had a difficult time with letting people, places and things who have served their purpose in my life go. Maybe I am afraid that the memories will go with them, maybe I am too sentimental, or maybe I am too selfish to accept that I have served their purpose and they are ready to let me go.

I wish I knew the answer.

Time keeps on ticking, ticking, ticking...

So, it has been a MASSIVELY long time since my last post, and I don't blame those of you who have quit checking to see if there are any new updates! But I have finally turned over the Quick Care Clinic to MAJ Rocheleau, signed out of Ft. Bliss and I am back in San Antonio for the Captain's Career Course, so I will have some more free time to keep my blog updated!

I guess I will start where I left off last! In late March, I found out that I was a late activation on the Long Term Health Education and Training alternate list. You may be asking yourself, "what does that mean?"... Well, that means that my dream of going back to graduate school has come true! Unfortunately, I was a little deflated at first, because I had NOT ONE acceptance letter from a Critical Care/Trauma Clinical Nurse Specialist program! But, I quickly did a little research on admission deadlines of the schools I wanted to apply to, and found that only one school had not made their fall 2010 admissions decision and was willing to take a late application... UCSF. Thanks to my skills of making things happen lightning-fast when the chips are down, some wonderful co-workers and an amazing supervisor; I had an application, four letters of recommendation, and an acceptance letter from the School of Nursing at the University of California at San Francisco in less than a week's time! I am so excited to be heading to an amazing city, close to friends and family, and where I will get to live with my husband like a normal married person. Not to mention the fact that I will be educated by the brightest minds in nursing at a cutting-edge facility that is doing some unprecedented things in medicine. I start in September and cannot even express how excited (and nervous) I am! My mom and I took a quick trip to San Francisco in June to look at the campus and do some preliminary house hunting. It was a great trip, with awesome food and a better idea of where Michael and I want to live. Here I am in front of the UCSF School of Nursing... The place where I will spend most of my time for the next two years.

April screamed by while I worked 65 hours a week in the clinic, and was over before I knew it. The only highlight in April was that two of the six nurses that I hired in February started work. Yeah!

May flew by as well while I had my nose to the grindstone, but took a short Southern California vacation to see my cousin Sydney graduate from California Lutheran University. Michael flew in from Phoenix for the event, so I at least got to see him once in May. :) It was great to reconnect with family, party and unwind a little. I was also awesome that Michael got to meet a little more of the family before the ceremony in December. Here we are at Sydney's party with my longer hairdo. I am not sure how I feel about it yet after having a sassy short haircut for the past four years. The week after my mini-vacation, the Army decided to make my life a little crazier... I found out that I was going to the Captain's Career Course in July. The race was on to tie up loose ends, turn over the clinic to a new Head Nurse, and get everything in place to PCS in less than 45 days. I didn't think that I would get everything taken care of with the snails-pace that Ft. Bliss offices move at, but I put my boot in some butts and got it all done in record time.

The beginning of June found me driving to Phoenix for three weeks of much-needed, and well-deserved leave with the hubby and the cats. I had a great time hanging out with the cats, running, and cooking for Michael. We also got a lot of details nailed down for the ceremony in December and went to Boojum Tree a couple of times too. I love it there... It is so beautiful and I feel so lucky to be renewing our vows there. While we were there on the 20th, we got to taste our dinner menu and it was amazing! Here I am sitting on the edge of one of many fountains at Boojum Tree. At the tail-end of my stay in Phoenix, one of Michael's co-workers took us out shooting in the desert. I always love shooting... Especially handguns. So much power in such a small package. Eric had three handguns that we got to shoot: a Springfield XD, a 1911, and a competition handgun with a laser sight. Michael has shot skeet before, but has never used a handgun, so it was a great experience for him, and always a fun time for me! To the left is the poor Budwiser bottle that didn't stand a chance against me and an XD. :) On June 27th I was back on the road to El Paso and getting myself mentally prepared for the two-week onslaught of outprocessing.

I am happy to report that I survived the pack, pick-up and cleaning of my apartment; outprocessing Ft. Bliss and WBAMC; successfully securing all necessary documents for the Career Course and UCSF; and finally driving out of El Paso with Michael yesterday. We arrived in San Antonio in one piece late last night after two nasty rainstorms... At a few points during our drive I was nearly gripping the dash, but my hero of a husband did a great job driving in the rain and trying to keep me calm. Today, we got up and hit the town, strolling down the Riverwalk, eating Italian along the riverbank, and visiting the Alamo. Here we are trying to beat the heat under the misters at the Italian joint we ate at today. Unfortunately, like many times before, I had to take Michael to the airport this evening. If all goes as planned, in nine weeks Michael and I will be in San Francisco together... I really hope so, because I am getting terribly tired of always saying goodbye to him.

I inprocess for the Captain's Career Course tomorrow with my friend Tas, whom I went to OBC with and worked with at Martin Army. It is truly a milestone to come full-circle in my blog... I started it almost five years ago when I was leaving for the Officer Basic Course here in San Antonio. I think it is safe to say that I now have some experience under my belt, and I am looking forward to starting the next chapter of my Army adventure!

Stay tuned, because I am bound and determined to keep this thing updated!
